Aftercare tips and hair know-how from our salon on James Street, Yeppoon.

aftercare forColour

A few simple habits help your new colour stay rich, glossy and true to tone for longer.

The first 48 hours

  • Wait at least 48 hours before your first wash so the colour has time to settle.
  • Skip the pool, the surf and the gym sweat session for the first couple of days if you can.
  • Keep hot tools on a lower setting and always use a heat protectant.

Every day

  • Wash in lukewarm or cool water. Hot water opens the hair cuticle and lets colour slip away faster.
  • Use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner made for coloured hair, and try washing a little less often.
  • Protect your hair from the sun with a hat, especially on long beach days.
  • Wet your hair with clean water and apply a leave-in before swimming, then rinse straight after.
  • If you have hard or bore water at home, a shower filter can help reduce mineral build-up that dulls colour.

Products we recommend

  • Moroccanoil Color Care shampoo and conditioner for gentle, colour-friendly cleansing.
  • Moroccanoil Treatment on damp ends for softness and shine.
  • Moroccanoil Perfect Defense before blow-drying or styling with heat.
  • Color Wow Dream Coat on humid days to keep hair smooth.
  • Filtered Beauty shower filter for homes with hard water.

aftercare forBlonde

Blonde hair needs a little extra moisture and a little tone care to stay bright and soft.

The first 48 hours

  • Hold off washing for at least 48 hours after lightening or toning.
  • Avoid chlorine and salt water for the first few days, as freshly lightened hair is more porous.
  • Go easy on heat and use a heat protectant every time.

Every day

  • Use a purple shampoo once or twice a week to soften brassy or yellow tones. Use your regular colour-safe shampoo the rest of the time.
  • Leave purple shampoo on for a short time to start with. If your blonde looks dull or lilac, use it less often.
  • Condition every wash and add a weekly mask or bond-building treatment.
  • Rinse in cool water, and detangle gently from the ends up with a soft brush.
  • Before a swim, wet your hair with fresh water and apply a pre-swim protectant. Rinse as soon as you are out.
  • Wear a hat in strong sun to help protect your tone.

Products we recommend

  • Moroccanoil Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo once or twice a week.
  • Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector as a weekly at-home treatment.
  • Olaplex No. 4 and No. 5 shampoo and conditioner for everyday care.
  • Coastal Grl Pre-Swim before the pool or the beach.
  • Filtered Beauty shower filter if your water is hard.

aftercare forExtension

Good daily care keeps your extensions looking natural, comfortable and lasting as long as possible.

Every method is a little different. Always follow the specific care your stylist gives you for your tape-in, sew-in weft, butterfly weft or clip-in extensions.

The first 48 hours

  • For tape-ins, wait at least 48 hours before washing so the tapes can bond properly.
  • Avoid heavy sweating, swimming and saunas for the first couple of days.
  • Keep oils and conditioner away from the attachment area.

Every day

  • Brush gently from the ends up, holding the hair at the root, using a loop brush or a Wet Brush.
  • Apply conditioner and treatments from mid-lengths to ends only, never on tapes, bonds or wefts.
  • Dry the roots and attachments completely after every wash.
  • Sleep with dry hair in a loose plait or low ponytail, ideally on a silk pillowcase.
  • For swimming, tie hair up in a plait, wet it with fresh water first, and rinse and condition afterwards. Remove clip-ins before you swim or sleep.
  • Book maintenance appointments every 6 to 8 weeks, or as your stylist advises.

Products we recommend

  • Wet Brush for gentle, everyday detangling.
  • Moroccanoil Hydrating shampoo and conditioner to keep lengths soft.
  • Moroccanoil Treatment on the ends only.
  • Moroccanoil Perfect Defense before heat styling.

aftercare forCurl

Curls love moisture, gentle handling and a routine that works with their natural shape.

The first 48 hours

  • After a curly cut or colour, give your hair a day or two before your first wash.
  • Let your curls fall naturally and avoid tight hair ties that leave kinks.
  • Take note of how your curls behave so we can fine-tune your routine together.

Every day

  • Use a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo and wash only as often as your hair needs.
  • Detangle with conditioner in, using your fingers or a wide, flexible brush.
  • Apply styling products to soaking wet hair to help curls clump and reduce frizz.
  • Scrunch out excess water with a cotton T-shirt or microfibre towel instead of rubbing.
  • Air dry or use a diffuser on low heat and low speed.
  • Sleep on silk or satin, or loosely pile your curls on top of your head.
  • Refresh second-day curls with a light mist of water and a little curl cream.

Products we recommend

  • Lohy Cruise Control Curl Cream for soft, defined curls.
  • Moroccanoil Hydrating shampoo and conditioner for everyday moisture.
  • Moroccanoil Frizz Control range for humid Capricorn Coast days.
  • Color Wow Dream Coat when you want a smoother finish.
  • Wet Brush for gentle detangling.

aftercare forTreatment

Help your bond-building or hydration treatment keep working at home with a little ongoing care.

The first 48 hours

  • Follow your stylist's advice on when to wash. Many treatments benefit from a short wait.
  • Avoid swimming and very hot tools for the first day or two.
  • Enjoy the softness and notice how your hair feels, so we can plan your next treatment together.

Every day

  • Use a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo and condition every time you wash.
  • Use a heat protectant before blow-drying, straightening or curling, and keep the temperature moderate.
  • Detangle gently from the ends up, especially when hair is wet.
  • Protect your hair before swimming and rinse with fresh water afterwards.
  • Add an at-home treatment once a week to keep the benefits going between visits.
  • Book your next in-salon treatment when your stylist recommends. Regular treatments tend to work best as part of a routine.

Products we recommend

  • Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector as a weekly at-home treatment.
  • Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil for shine and heat protection on the ends.
  • Lakmé K2.0 Recover for hair that needs repair and care.
  • Moroccanoil Treatment for everyday softness.
  • Moroccanoil Perfect Defense before any heat styling.

These are general tips. Always follow any specific advice your stylist gives you, and call us on 07 4938 3900 if anything doesn't feel right.
